In some cases it is worthwhile setting up a customs warehouse, again depending on the type of products you are importing.
Is it clearly defined which of your suppliers are “free house” and which ones are “ex-works”? This can be an extremely important factor when assessing transport costs and making changes in the supply chain. Have you thought about setting up the typical “Milk Run” to save transport costs? Do all suppliers have valid POs in place? Many companies do not analyse their suppliers enough, hence allowing huge costs to grow out of all proportion and go unmonitored for months or in some cases even years.
